Abu Dhabi post season test 2022
November 22-23.

Abu Dhabi post-season test 2022: Which drivers will be in action?
Red Bull: The World Champions have not yet solidified their plans for the post-season test, either on the tyre-testing front or the junior driver front. However, Liam Lawson will be driving Max Verstappen’s RB18 for FP1 on the Friday of the grand prix weekend, which means the Kiwi is the likely choice for the young driver running.
Mercedes: Merc junior driver Frederik Vesti will take the wheel of the W13 for the first day of the test (November 22), fulfilling the team’s young driver requirement. No details regarding their tyre-test programme have yet been confirmed.
Ferrari: No confirmed details of their testing plans yet but with Robert Shwartzman taking part in FP1 for the Scuderia, he is likely to be their nomination for their young driver obligations.
McLaren: The signing of Oscar Piastri ruffled plenty of feathers (not least within Alpine), but the team have now agreed an early release from his contract, which will allow the Australian to drive for McLaren in the post-season test, with team boss Andreas Seidl confirming this would be the case in Sao Paulo.
Aston Martin: Fernando Alonso takes over Sebastian Vettel’s AMR22 for the opening morning of the Abu Dhabi test (November 22) with Lance Stroll assuming the seat for the afternoon running. New junior signing Felipe Drugovich will carry out their junior driver obligations – the exact details of the team’s run plans are yet to be confirmed.
Alpine: Team boss Otmar Szafnauer confirmed Pierre Gasly will make his debut for the team with whom he will race in 2023 as he takes over Alonso’s seat. Following the dramas with Oscar Piastri earlier this season, F2 racer Jack Doohan has assumed his mantle as the team’s top junior – which means he will likely run the junior programme.
AlphaTauri: Nyck de Vries, their 2023 signing, has been confirmed as taking part in the test, with his participation being under the young driver obligation. Team boss Franz Tost confirmed the Dutch driver’s participation during the Mexico City Grand Prix weekend, although details regarding their tyre-testing plans are yet to be announced.
Alfa Romeo: Absolutely no hints have emerged about Alfa Romeo’s testing plans. The team have already fulfilled their FP1 junior driver requirements, having run Theo Pourchaire for that session at the United States Grand Prix. Given Formula 2 is racing at Abu Dhabi on the same weekend as F1, Pourchaire will be on hand if Alfa Romeo give him the call-up for the test.
Williams: The British team’s 2023 plans currently centre around Logan Sargeant getting enough Super Licence points to be eligible to be an F1 driver next season. To that end, following his FP1 showing with the team on Friday at Yas Marina, the American driver will also take part in the young driver test. No details regarding their tyre test have emerged yet.
Haas: As the only team yet to confirm their full 2023 driver line-up, it is no surprise the team are also yet to announce their testing plans. Haas will field reserve driver Pietro Fittipaldi for the FP1 session on Friday, so running the Brazilian racer as their young driver at the test would be a logical assumption.
